OFA/PennHIP Certifications
OFA & PennHIP Certifications
At North Pole Veterinary Hospital, we are proud to offer comprehensive OFA and PennHIP certification services to support the health and well-being of your pets. These certifications play a crucial role in identifying and managing hereditary conditions, particularly those affecting joints and endocrine function.
OFA Certification Services
OFA certifications are available at our hospital for elbow, patella, hips, and thyroid.
- For the orthopedic certifications, pets must be 2 years of age or older.
- For thyroid certification, pets must be 12 months of age or older.
These evaluations help breeders and pet owners ensure the long-term health of their pets and contribute to responsible breeding practices. To learn more about OFA certifications, please visit www.ofa.org or call us to consult directly with your pet’s veterinarian.
PennHIP Certification Services
PennHIP (Pennsylvania Hip Improvement Program) is a specialized method for evaluating hip health and detecting the risk of hip dysplasia in dogs. Unlike traditional hip evaluations, PennHIP can be performed on dogs as young as 16 weeks of age. This early detection allows breeders to make informed decisions about breeding stock and provides pet owners with critical information for:
- Early lifestyle and activity modifications
- Preventative care strategies
- Reducing the risk and progression of hip dysplasia
Our certified PennHIP veterinarian, Dr. Melissa Rouge, is experienced in performing these advanced evaluations. To schedule an appointment with Dr. Rouge, please call us. Visit www.pennhip.org to learn more about PennHIP certifications.
